Ah, the terror wot stalked my childhood days. And, I suppose, those of many other kids from decades since the 1950s onwards. And yet to me at least it seems a particularly 80s fear. I wonder whether that's just my own blinkered take on it or whether there's some truth in it. Anyway, here it is:
